10 Whether a vehicle is owned by WHO or rented, it is the responsibility of the Transport Manager/Assistant to ensure that vehicles are in a roadworthy condition. As well as reducing the risks of being a danger on the road and a vehicle breakdown, a well-maintained vehicle will operate more efficiently and economically.

20 WHO vehicles must receive regular and timely preventive maintenance, using genuine spare parts, and at the intervals prescribed by the manufacturer as a minimum, or more frequently if needed. Poor maintenance increases the risk of breakdowns and failures, with an associated risk to safety as well as programme disruption, increased costs, and increasing the negative impact on the environment.

30 The procedure for vehicle inspection and recording of maintenance is detailed in the Vehicle Maintenance Logbook.
